Getting to Meeker
No matter what time of year or where you are coming from, Meeker is accessible. Meeker is nestled in the White River Valley on Colorado State Highway 13 between Rifle and Craig. Be on the lookout for wildlife along the roadsides no matter what direction you are heading and don’t let your passengers take a nap as they will miss some gorgeous natural land outcroppings in the area.
From the North: From Craig, take State Highway 13 South, 48 miles. This stretch of Highway 13 is a winding, curving mountainous road that goes over Ninemile Gap approximately 9 miles from Meeker.
From the South: From Rifle, take State Highway 13 North, 42 miles. This stretch of Highway 13 is a winding road that goes over Rio Blanco Hill with an elevation of 7,267 feet.
From the West: From Rangely, take State Highway 64 East, 58 miles to State Highway 13. Turn East onto Highway 13 and travel 2 miles to the town of Meeker. Highway 64 is a curvy road with some small hills to climb.
From the East: (along the Flat Tops Scenic Byway) Starting in Yampa, take Routt County Road 17 to County Road 132, which will become Rio Blanco County Road 8. Continue on County Road 8 to the Junction of State Highway 13. Turn left onto Highway 13 and travel approximately ½ mile to the town of Meeker. The journey across this historic Flat Tops Scenic Byway is breathtaking and provides amble opportunity for side excursions such as picnicking, hiking, fishing, nature and wildlife photographing, and so much more. Plan at least 2-1/2 hours to make the 82 mile trip. There are no services along the Scenic Byway, so plan accordingly. Approximately 30 miles of the route is paved with the remainder being a well maintained gravel road. The Scenic Byway is closed from mid-November until mid-June, give or take, depending on snow levels. To confirm that the road is open, please call the Meeker Chamber at (970)878-5510.
